I have been fortunate enough to see some of the most incredible homes, architecturally and under the terms of what you call a home. Not only have I seen them, I have been invited to them and in fact this summer I plan to spend some time, a long time in one of them in order to write, relax and get away from it all for a while.
The happy owner of this lovely abode is Carles, a charming photographer from Reus (South of Barcelona) who has not invited me, but obliged me to come spend August in his friendly home to disconnect and to finally sit and write my novel which we are all waiting so patiently for. Above is a lovely view of the tower I will sit in and write, allowing the days to go by and for the ideas to flow as well as the kitchen I look forward to sitting in, drinking wine and cooking for my host. He is about to find out what my culinary traits are all about. I plan to pay him back with three course meals and talk extravaganzas. I also look forward to spending some alone time from the noise and routine and to connect with yet another incredible person I have met. Carles has a heart of gold and I plan to learn from him.

The house is a modernist house with delightful colors, a dance hall where he hosts summer concerts, a tower for the princess in me, a swimming pool, a garden, and so much more.
There will be many more blogs to come about this, I'm sure. And if this doesn't inspire me to write a novel, I QUIT!
The other home I was recently at is my darling friend Marta's, North of Barcelona in the foothills of a town called Cabrils. It is an old late 1800's country home with a tower as well and a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea. She has picked up antique pieces here and there and restored them to create what she now calls home with her beau. She lives in the tower part of the house, tuc

ked in the woods and wakes up every morning

to a blue view of the sea.

The lower picture is of Marta and a nasty little worm that fell on her car and wasn't planning to go anywhere. You can't quite see it from here, but it was one of the ugliest worms I've seen and I swear it started eating its own head. yuck...
Well, the point is, that whether you have a tower or not, all houses seem to have something magical to them, something intriguing, breathtaking, or revealing about the person that lives there. Like when you would go to your aunt's house and open her medicine cabinet only to find mysterious little bottles, colorful makeup, and a forgotten love letter tucked behind it all. I love visiting people's homes. I feel as if I always walk out with a new idea and with a secret about the owner. One step closer to getting to know someone better.
